Attracting outstanding students with standout scholarships
The Chancellor’s Scholarships are considered one of the most prestigious awards at ݮƵ. Each year, the Chancellor’s Circle (formerly the Chancellor’s Club) provides four-year scholarships for up to 40 students from across Canada, selected based on academic excellence and exceptional community involvement.
These scholarships attract and retain students from across Canada, bringing remarkable abilities and aspirations to our university and our city.
The Chancellor’s Scholarship made it more feasible for me to move away from home and come to the ݮƵ to pursue my passion of neuroscience research.

Helping dreams come true for 30 years
Since the Chancellor’s Circle was established in 1990, the scholarship program has become an essential facet of ݮƵ culture and helped hundreds of the best and brightest ݮƵ students pursue their academic dreams.
In 2020, the donor-funded program commemorated30 years — the success and longevity of this program is only possible thanks to the incredible commitment and generosity of our community.
I am continuously inspired by the work of other Chancellor’s Scholars, and I will strive to follow their example. I look forward to dedicating myself to championing diversity and sustainable development throughout my career.

Connecting students with the community
The Chancellor’s Scholarships bring together recipients from across all disciplines and faculties, forming an interdisciplinary cohort that is introduced to faculty members and community mentors who can offer valuable advice, assistance and mentorship.
Thanks to Chancellor’s scholarships, I’ve been able to connect with significant scholars and influential people from the Calgary area, which has been a very enlightening and motivational experience.

From chancellor’s scholars to community leaders
Not only do Chancellor’s Scholarships attract top students to attend ݮƵ, they also help cultivate future leaders who are genuinely connected to our community.
By providing scholarships, unique programming, mentorship and supports to these students, the Chancellor’s Circle program is building a network of community-minded alumni from all disciplines that will lead or city, province and country into the future.
Wilma Shim, BSc (kinesiology)’07, JD’10
Lawyer and Chancellor’s Scholar alumnus Wilma Shim has a passion for her community. She is the vice chair of the ݮƵ Alumni Association and sits on the affiliate management committee for special Olympics Calgary.
“As Chancellor’s Scholars, we were given opportunities to meet influential and inspiring community members. The experience developed our confidence and helped us feel comfortable asking for help to open doors,” says Shim.

Chancellor’s Scholar alumnus Carolina Romeo is currently a logistics operations team lead for Shell Canada. The impact of her scholarship was so strong that as soon as she was able, she joined the Chancellor’s Circle herself.
“The Chancellor’s Scholarship had such a positive impact on my life — it was a huge factor in helping me be able to get through school, and I want to make sure other students get the same experience I had,” says Romeo.
