2023 grad wins Justice Rosalie Silberman Abella Prize
The Royal Society of Canada (RSC) has announced the 2023 winners of the Justice Rosalie Silberman Abella Prize. The RSC established the Prize in honour of Justice Rosalie Silberman Abella, a changemaker celebrated for her visionary intellectual contributions and commitment to building equality and equity across Canadian society and beyond.
"I am absolutely honored and grateful to be the recipient of the Justice Rosalie Silberman Abella Prize," says Saliha. "Justice Abella’s lifelong commitment to justice, equality, and human rights has set a remarkable standard for all of us to aspire to. Her tireless advocacy and her unwavering commitment to these ideals have been instrumental in shaping the legal landscape in Canada. Receiving an award in her honor highlights the importance of continuing her legacy and it serves as a powerful reminder that, as legal professionals, we have a collective responsibility to uphold the principles that Justice Abella has championed throughout her career."
During her time at ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½ Law, Saliha made a significant contribution to the understanding or resolution of social or human rights issues while acquiring a legal education. She was the law school's Students' Union representative and worked tirelessly to create a more inclusive environment within the Faculty of Law. She created the new  and advocated for the need for a multi-faith space in the law school. Additionally, Saliha was instrumental in organizing the which brought together a diverse group of people and honoured the month of Ramadan. ÌýÌý
I am truly grateful for this recognition and as I begin my legal career, I hope to live up to the legacy and ideals embodied by Justice Abella.ÌýÌý
