Dr. Pamela Chu appointed Associate Dean, Professionalism, Equity and Diversity

Appointment was effective March 1, 2019

The Cumming School of Medicine (CSM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Pamela Chu, MD, as the new Associate Dean, Professionalism, Equity and Diversity. The appointment was effective Mar. 1, 2019.

Pamela takes over for Dr. Beverly Adams, who last October.

Pamela is an associate professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology with a cross-appointment in the Department of Oncology. She is a member of the section of Gynecologic Oncology, Alberta Health Services, Calgary Zone.

Her research interests include collaborating in multi-center clinical trials for ovarian cancer and improving models of care for gynecological oncology patients. Pamela serves as education lead for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and was director of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology residency training program from 2013 to 2018. She was Assistant Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education from 2014 to 2018. Prior to that, Pamela served as chair of Association of Professors of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of Canada. She completed her medical school, residency and fellowship training at the University of Manitoba followed by an additional year of surgical training in France.

In education, Pamela has been involved in simulation curriculum development, looking at issues of residency training hours, transitions in training, implementing Competency-Based Medical Education and creating a Resident Doctors of Canada national resiliency curriculum. Pamela is a member of the CSM’s Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute, Gynecologic Oncologists of Canada and the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada.

She will continue building on the Office of Professionalism, Equity and Diversity strategic priorities of inclusion and diversity, mental health and conflict resolution and the CSM’s gender equity initiatives including the Network of Women, a collaboration of academic and clinical women faculty seeking to support their colleagues at all career stages.
