It's mooting season!
²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½ Law students competed in several moots across Canada from March 3-5.
The Alberta Court of Appeal Moot against the University of Alberta Faculty of Law took place in Calgary on March 3 and 4. Three teams of two mooters each competed in Criminal, Civil and Constitutional rounds, with the ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½ teams winning the Criminal and Constitutional rounds. Congrats to all the students in this moot - Gavin Clark and Sarah Miller (Criminal), Curtis Wolff and Noah Burshtein (Civil), and Mihai Beschea and Ingrid Braul (Constitutional). Thank you to coaches Michael Bates, Chadwick Newcombe and Robert Moyse.
The Willms Shier Environmental Law Moot team, made up of David Rennie and Austin Ward, competed in Toronto on March 4. The team finished in second place out of 14 teams, and received an award for the best Appellants' Factum. Austin also received a Distinguished Oralist award. The team was excited to argue in front of Justice Rowe of the Supreme Court of Canada and two judges from the Court of Appeal of Ontario in the final round. Thank you to Gavin Fitch for coaching the team.
The Donald G. Bowman National Tax Moot team, made up of Marco Maduri, Hanna Buckley, Chris Johnston, Trent Blanchette and Jessie Sunner, also competed in Toronto on March 3 and 4 and represented ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½ Law extremely well.
The Canadian Division of the Jessup International Law Moot took place in Edmonton from March 2 to 5. The team, made up of Stephen Armstrong, Morgan Sterns, Andrea Williams and Dafydd Samuel also competed very well. Thank you to the coaches, Christine Viney and Jeff Major-Hansford.
