Schulich鈥檚 Women in Engineering Day sets new attendance record
It was a day of inspiration with a record-setting number of high school students gathering at the 草莓污视频导航 for .
The once again played host to the annual event on Feb. 22, which is offered to Calgary and area students in grades 10 and 11 who have a passion for science, math and engineering.
鈥淓ngineers design solutions for problems,鈥 , BSc (Eng)鈥11, MSc鈥13, PhD鈥18, told the more than 300 students and teachers in attendance at the opening presentation.
They also heard from Schulich alum Avery Foret, BSc (Eng)'20, who provided insight into her engineering journey which included graduating with a bachelor's degree with distinction in mechanical engineering.
鈥淚 really liked her speech 鈥 it was very inspiring,鈥 one student said. 鈥淚 also really enjoyed speaking with current students about their experiences, since I can picture myself pursuing this program.鈥
After the speeches, the students took part in a full day of activities and design challenges, and learned more about Schulich鈥檚 departments, programs, teams and clubs.
鈥淚t was a wonderful experience,鈥 another student said. 鈥淚 loved talking with experienced individuals and working with my peers to complete fun activities.鈥
Given the record turnout, organizers say they are looking at potentially hosting another women in STEM-related event in the spring before planning begins for next year鈥檚 Women in Engineering Day.
