Scott McLean becomes the ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½ Representative in Mexico in Mexico City starting July

I am pleased to announce that Scott McLean has been seconded from the Department of Sociology in the Faculty of Arts to become the ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½ Representative in Mexico at the Universidad Nacional Autonóma de Mexico (UNAM) in Mexico City for a three-year term, effective July 1, 2017.

McLean will provide regular contact with our Mexican partners and will help ensure the ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½â€™s many initiatives in Mexico are implemented. Mexico is a country of emphasis in the university’s International Strategy. Earlier this year, the university was awarded $44 million in research funding from the Mexican Ministry of Energy (SENER) for four knowledge networks to support joint research projects that will aid energy reforms in Mexico.

McLean joined the ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½ as the director of continuing education in July 2005. From 2001 through 2005, he served as the associate dean of extension at the University of Saskatchewan, where from 1994 through 2001 he was the director of community development programs.

McLean’s professional practice has ranged from teaching adult basic education in Nunavut, to developing innovative continuing education programs in the fields of agricultural leadership and health promotion. He has taught graduate courses in the practice and theory of adult education, research methods, and the planning and evaluation of educational programs. McLean holds a PhD in Sociology from Carleton University and both a Bachelor and Master's of Arts in Sociology from the University of Alberta.

I’d like to thank Dan MacFayden and Tim Marchant for their work in Mexico to date. Both have been involved in ensuring that key partnerships were stewarded. Dan played a key role in ensuring our grant applications to CONACYT were successful, and Tim has continued to develop partnerships with key institutions.

Please join me in congratulating Scott on his new role.
