6 reasons to attend Community Report 2019

Whether you are new to the university, not sure what to expect or just on the fence, there are so many reasons to attend Community Report on Sept. 26.

We’ll serve up a short list to whet your appetite and inspire you to and join in on the festivities.

  1. Discover the remarkable progress that ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½ has made toward the goals set out in Eyes High and the Academic and Research plans. Marvel at the innovations, learn about the research and take pride in the countless ways our community creates impact in Calgary and around the world. Many of these highlights were featured across campus and in previous editions of UToday, and when assembled together, the list is truly outstanding.

We are saving the report’s release for Thursday’s events, but when you check out the 2019 Community Report in its full glory, you’ll be inspired by what our ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½ campus has achieved and get inspired by the promise of what’s to come.
  1. Two events, two ways to celebrate. We know it’s often difficult to get away from your lab, classroom or workspace — that’s why there are options. You are welcome to attend the Foothills celebration or catch the second event on main campus, making for twice the fun. Each event will feature inspiring student leaders who will share their unique ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½ experiences while President Ed McCauley provides a snapshot of the past year.
  • Foothills campus
    HRIC Atrium
    9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Remarks at 10 a.m.
  • Main campus
    MacEwan Hall A and B

    11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Remarks at 11:30 a.m.
  1. Let our student leaders inspire you. Listen to their unique stories and celebrate their accomplishments, knowing that we all do plays a part, whether large or small, in helping them succeed. We’ve invited a phenomenal lineup of students to share their experiences: two at Foothills (Sunand Kannappan, Health Sciences) and Kim Stewart (Veterinary Medicine) and four at main campus: Teddy Seyed (Computer Science), Laura Rios Carreño (Engineering), Max Eisele (Kinesiology) and Julianna Lyon (Arts).

Each student will relate their experiences at ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½, highlighting their innovative spirit, entrepreneurialism, community-mindedness or leadership in helping tackle real-world problems — while serving as university ambassadors.

  2. Learn about products and services for faculty and staff on campus. Back for its second year, a select group of faculties and administrative programs will showcase what they offer and their benefits to the campus. Broaden your professional development opportunities, find out how you can be more cybersecure, learn about waste and recycling on campus, visit the Faculty of Science’s soapbox and ask a scientist a question or take a shot at Plinko, a bean bag toss, or mindmapping.

All participants who complete the exhibit passport have a chance to win an Apple Watch.

  3. Make new connections, or just catch up with colleagues from across the campus. Community Report is one of the few events for the university community to gather and celebrate the year that was and look forward to what’s in store. Catch up with colleagues and peers with whom you don’t often get to connect or meet new ones who may inspire new research paths, projects, or creative endeavours.

  4. Indulge in delicious food and drinks. If nothing has convinced you, the mouth-watering treats are reason enough to attend.

Have we got you convinced? .
