Staff Wellness workshops support your mental health
Positive or negative, personal or professional, change can make it difficult to maintain good mental health. And so far, 2019 has served up a fair share of change to the 草莓污视频导航 community.
Any time is the right time to get proactive about your mental health and resiliency 鈥 take advantage of the free regularly offered throughout the year. Staff Wellness has even added a limited-time offering for managers, by Homewood Health.
Amanda Habiak, mental health consultant with Staff Wellness, says the upcoming workshops are filled with valuable information, tools and strategies designed to help the 草莓污视频导航 community navigate elements of mental health that can affect work and personal life.
鈥淥ur workshops are for everyone,鈥 says Habiak. 鈥淲e all have mental health, so we should all try to understand it and learn to support it.鈥
All Staff Wellness workshops are customized for employees and leaders so the information is as relevant as possible. Here鈥檚 what鈥檚 coming up in the next couple of months:
Mental Health workshops for faculty and staff
Nov. 22 | 8:30 a.m. 鈥 noon | MS 733
Since The Working Mind workshops were launched at 草莓污视频导航 three years ago, more than 400 草莓污视频导航 managers and employees have taken advantage of this opportunity to increase awareness and reduce stigma around mental illness.
Open to all faculty and staff, this workshop will help you:
- recognize signs and symptoms in yourself and others
- reduce stigma and negative attitudes
- support colleagues with mental health problems
- maintain your own mental health and improve your resilience
The Working Mind workshop for employees is an optional course in the UAdvance program.

If you鈥檝e already taken The Working Mind for Employees, this booster session will help you build on the strategies you developed in The Working Mind Employee Workshop.
Nov. 6 and Dec. 12 | 1 - 3 p.m. | MS 733
This workshop explores emotional, social, and physical wellness to help you learn strategies that will increase your personal resilience. Better prepare yourself to navigate everyday activities and to deal with challenges, setbacks and change in your work and personal life.
Workshops for Managers
Dec. 10 | 9 a.m. 鈥 4:30 p.m. |MS 733

Open to all leaders on campus, this workshop will help you:
- ensure you have the confidence, tools and resources to manage and support employees with mental illness
- recognize the effects of the stigma of mental illness and attempt to reduce its impact
- recognize signs and symptoms in yourself and others
- reduce stigma and negative attitudes
- support colleagues with mental health problems
- maintain your own mental health and improve your resilience
The manager workshop is part of the UManage program.

If you鈥檝e already taken The Working Mind for Managers, this booster session will help you build on the strategies you developed in The Working Mind Employee Workshop.
Nov. 6 and 18 | 9 a.m. 鈥 4:30 p.m. | EDC 287
Take advantage of this limited offering of Leadership Strategies for Supporting Mental Health from Homewood Health. The workshop is an excellent complement to the Working Mind Workshop for managers, which Staff Wellness offers throughout the year.
The full-day training program is for people leaders to develop awareness and skills around supporting employee mental health, and how to build a resilient workplace. Leaders will practise strategies to manage complex employee situations when mental health may be a factor. With a focus on creating a culture of collaboration and support, the program teaches techniques to empower employees to perform at their best.
Wellness Workshops for students
Students can self-register for Wellness Workshops offered each week that address various aspects of well-being, including:
- Motivation and Time Management
- Discover Your Self-care
- Move Over Anxiety
- Holistic Ways of Well-being
Students dealing with anxiety can also be referred to , facilitated by CMHA 鈥 Calgary. The group runs Nov. 5 to 19 and students can register online.
