Single-leg glides with stops

Category: Balance

Level: 2

1-2 widths/leg

  • Players will push off and glide forward on one leg in a straight line for as long as they can
  • Maintain knee alignment over ankle
  • Keep torso upright and positioned straight ahead
  • Keep stick on ice
  • Players will use their trail leg to stop themselves after a few seconds of gliding, then push off again
  • Knee collapsing inward
  • Raising stick off of the ice surface
  • Leaning to either side
  • Single-leg glides are useful for hockey players to maintain good knee control and ankle stability.
  • Strong foot/ankle position ensures movement occurs forward (and not to either side).
