As societal conversations around gender evolve, ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½ researchers look at a wide range of aspects related to this topic, including changing perceptions of gender through representation in art, our laws and gender discrimination, masculinity and gender norms in sports.

Sex & Gender-Based Analysis Health Policy Research

This collaboration aims to fund Policy-Research Partnerships, which will help bridge the gaps between research knowledge and policy development. It will support the rigorous application of sex-and-gender-based-analysis to ensure Health Canada's outward-facing activities address the diverse needs of women, men, girls, boys and gender-diverse people to maximize positive health outcomes and improve the health of Canadians. Women Entrepreneurship in STEM

Hunter Hub received a federal grant from the Research Support Fund's Incremental Project Grant to build WELab, the university's first women in STEM entrepreneurship and pitch program. This program is the first of its kind in Alberta and is designed to support the next generation of women entrepreneurs, leaders and innovators. Learn more.

Local

²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½ hosted girls from schools across Calgary for a day of mentorship and possibilities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Visitors toured ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½ labs, chatted with researchers about their careers and engaged in hands-on activities that demonstrated the STEM fields in engaging and immersive ways.

National

Findings from a new national study conducted in the Faculty of Social Work suggest that fighting against the patriarchy can often be lonely, difficult work. The study suggests that men who champion gender equality and fight against unhealthy gender norms need more support and mentorship to make a difference and suggests the development of a network of pro-feminist and feminist leaders across the country.

International

The Libin Cardiovascular Institute hosted international research trainees in Banff for the Libin International Trainee Symposium: Research is Better with Sex & Gender! World-class experts on incorporating sex and gender considerations into research were on hand to provide coaching and insight. Trainees learned how to incorporate sex and gender considerations into the research process and developed concrete plans to integrate these considerations specifically into a current or proposed project.
