This training provides the mechanisms to support existing “natural” helpers in the campus community.

Community Helpers Training

Community Helpers covers a wide range of topics on helping and supporting others.


In this training, you'll:

  • Explore the topic of helping including the ethics of helping, knowing when someone needs help, and barriers to helping.
  • Gain or strengthen skills in handling crisis situations or general concerns.
  • Develop communication, listening and collaboration skills.
  • Learn how to recognize your limits and set healthy boundaries.
  • Gain knowledge about on- and off-campus services.

This program is open to students, faculty, staff and post-doctoral scholars in a helping or supporting role.

About the program

Community Helpers provides the mechanisms to support existing “natural” helpers in the campus community.

This training will equip you with the skills and tools needed to help people who are experiencing a problem or are in distress. 

Community Helpers was designed to bridge the informal and formal support for young adults in the community, and to provide awareness of existing supports and services. 

Custom Training

Community Helpers can be customized to fit the needs of your group, in length of training and topics covered. Custom training can be requested by students, staff or faculty.
