Admission

Applicants to the Leadership in Pedagogy and Coaching Major will enter this program at the second year level after successful completion of listed prerequisites. The number of spaces in second year is limited to 30 students (approximately 20-22 in the Pedagogy concentration and 8-10 in the Coaching concentration).

First year students will normally enter the General Major in the Faculty of Kinesiology in order to complete prerequisites. Applicants from outside Kinesiology must also meet the admission criteria for admission to the Faculty. Students will be required to declare a concentration (either Pedagogy or Coaching) when they enter the Leadership in Pedagogy and Coaching Major. This will enable suitable practicum placements to be set up for January.

The following requirements must be met and will be used as criteria in determining the most suitable candidates for admission and registration in the program.

1. Successful completion of four or more full-course equivalents with a GPA of at least 2.70 over the most recent course work to a maximum of five full-course equivalents (²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½ courses and/or transferable courses taken at other institutions). All grades within a term will be included except where the number of courses taken within a term exceeds that required to fulfill (to a maximum of) five full-course equivalents, in which case the highest grades will be used. In the event there are more qualified applicants than positions available, students will be admitted in descending GPA order.

2. Successful completion of Kinesiology 201.Ìý

3. Prior to enrolment in any practicum courses, students must consult with the Leadership in Pedagogy and Coaching Coordinator in order to obtain required documentation to comply with the legal requirements for placement in schools.
