4.13.1 BA Honours Classical and Early Christian Studies

A. FACULTY OF ARTS REQUIREMENTS

Students must adhere to the applicable Faculty of Arts requirements in 3.4 Graduation.

B. MAJOR-FIELD WITH HONOURS REQUIREMENTS

Students must successfully complete a minimum of 10.0 and a maximum of 12.0 full-course equivalents in the Field of Classical and Early Christian Studies while fulfilling the following requirements:

1. Language Component of the Major: All of the courses listed in two of the following language areas and at least one full-course equivalent in the third:

(a) Greek 201, 203, 301, 303, 413 (or an approved substitute);

(b) Latin 201, 203, 301, 303, 413 (or an approved substitute);

(c) Religious Studies 300, 302, 491* (Hebrew).

*Will be accepted when the topic is appropriate. Obtaining approval from the Faculty of Arts Program Information Centre may be required.

2. Greek and Roman Studies Courses: 1.0 full-course equivalent from 305, 306, 345, 347, 425, 433 and approved 500-level courses in Greek and Roman Studies, Greek, or Latin courses. Since Greek and Roman Studies 305 is cross-listed as Religious Studies 305, it can be counted toward either requirement 2 or 3, but not both.

3. Religious Studies Courses: 1.5 full-course equivalents from Religious Studies 201, 205, 301, 305, 383, 385, 484. Since Religious Studies 305 is cross-listed as Greek and Roman Studies 305, it can be counted toward either requirement 3 or 2, but not both.

4. Classical and Early Christian Studies Options: 1.5 additional full-course equivalents may be chosen from the Field of Classical and Early Christian Studies if Greek and Latin are chosen as the two principal languages in fulfilling requirement 1 above. 2.5 additional full-course equivalents are allowed if Hebrew is chosen as one of the two principal languages. Additional courses can be included from those listed in requirements 1-3.

C. DEGREE OPTIONS

The BA Honours in Classical and Early Christian Studies can be taken with Cooperative Education. See section 3.4.5 Co-operative Education Programs for information and requirements.

Note: History 319, 321, 371 and 505, and Philosophy 301, 303 and 501, are recommended options.
