4.1 Concurrent Degree Program
Introduction

In cooperation with other Faculties and Departments, the Faculty of Education offers a number of five-year concurrent degree programs. These programs require students to complete three years of study with the cooperating unit and two years of their studies with the Faculty of Education.

Students must successfully complete Education 201 (Introduction to Educational Studies) prior to beginning Semester 1 of BEd. Students must also meet course requirements for their chosen route (see 3.5.1 Elementary Route or 3.5.2 Secondary Route).

BA or BSc (Faculty of Arts)/BEd

Graduates of the Faculty of Arts are in high demand as social studies teachers. Students must apply to the Faculty Education and Faculty of Arts for admission to the concurrent program. Refer to Undergraduate Professional Programs in Section 1. Summary of Degree Programs for a list of eligible majors. Consult the Faculty of Arts section of this Calendar for a list of eligible majors and details of their programs.

BSc (General Mathematics in Education)/BEd

This program prepares specialist teachers of mathematics. Students must apply to the Faculty of Education and Faculty of Science for the combined concurrent degree program. Consult the Faculty of Science section of this Calendar for details of their program.

BKin (Leadership in Pedagogy and Coaching)/BEd

Students must apply to the Faculty of Education and Faculty Kinesiology for the concurrent degree program. Consult Faculty of Kinesiology section of this Calendar for details of their program.

BMus (Music Education)/BEd

This program is designed for students intending to teach music (both instrumental and choral) in schools at the elementary or secondary level. Students may must apply to the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Arts for the concurrent degree program. Consult the Faculty of Arts section of this Calendar for details of their program.

BSc (Natural Sciences)/BEd

This program is intended to offer a broad science education that will support teaching science in elementary and secondary schools. Students must apply to the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Science for the concurrent degree program no program. BFA (Visual Studies) or BFA (Drama Education)/BEd

Students must apply to the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Arts. Consult the Faculty of Arts section of this Calendar for details of their program.
