The Aboriginal Student Access Program (ASAP) is a transition year access program for Indigenous students in a supportive learning environment. The program offers academic advising and cultural, peer and tutorial support. ASAP provides an alternate access route for Indigenous students applying from high school or adult learners looking to complete a post-secondary degree program. The program is designed to give students the foundations they need, as well as assist in the selection of relevant post-secondary option courses for a specific degree program. This admission pathway is available to students who may not meet admission requirements or are seeking additional support during their transition year.
ASAP provides enhanced academic support, including a cohort structure, designated advisor, one-on-one academic advising, cultural workshops, leadership training and peer support. Students who take a minimum of 9 units per term are considered full-time students and may qualify for student loans, as well as other sources of funding.
For information on the ASAP program requirements, see section B.19.1.2 (ASAP Program)
Admissions Requirements
ASAP is for students of Indigenous ancestry (First Nations, Métis and Inuit). Applicants must meet the general admission requirements for Open Studies, see section A.14.2 (Admission Requirements) and complete a supplementary application form which will be reviewed by the ASAP admission committee. Students may be invited to attend an interview to discuss their educational background, their academic goals, post-secondary funding, course options, and available support services. The application deadline for the ASAP is determined by the application deadline specified for Open Studies.
