Academic Schedule

The University operates four terms during the academic year:

Fall Term 13 weeks September to December
Winter Term 13 weeks January to April
Spring Term 6 to 7 weeks May to June
Summer Term 6 weeks July to August

JULY, 2013

1 Monday
  • Canada Day, University closed. No lectures.
2 Tuesday
  • SUMMER TERM LECTURES BEGIN. First-term and six-week courses.
4 Thursday
  • Last day for registration and change of registration for Summer Term six-week and first-term half courses (without pre-session study).
  • No fee refunds for withdrawals from Summer Term six-week courses and first-term half courses after this date.
12 Friday
  • Fee payment deadline for Summer Term fees for six-week courses and first-term half courses.
  • All graduate students: Last day to complete all degree requirements (including submission of theses/dissertations) to not have fees assessed for Summer 2013.
22 Monday
  • Last day of first-term lectures in Summer Term.
  • Last day to withdraw with permission from first-term courses in Summer Term.
23 Tuesday
  • First-term final examinations for Summer Term.
  • Mid-term break for six week courses. No lectures.
24 Wednesday
  • Lectures begin for the second-term of Summer Term.
26 Friday
  • Last day for registration and change of registration for second-term Summer Term (without pre-session study).
  • No fee refunds for withdrawals from Summer Term second-term half courses after this date.


AUGUST, 2013

5 Monday
  • Alberta Heritage Day. University closed. No lectures.
14 Wednesday
  • SUMMER TERM LECTURES END
  • Last day to withdraw with permission from full courses, half courses given over a six-week period and second-term half courses in Summer Term.
  • Last day to withdraw with permission from thirteen-week courses (Multi-Term) offered from May 14 to August 14.
15 Thursday
  • Last day to submit Application for Degree for all degrees and diplomas to be conferred at Fall Convocation.
15-17 Thursday-Saturday
  • Final Examinations for Summer Term except first-term courses. Final examinations for thirteen-week courses.

SEPTEMBER, 2013

2 Monday
  • Labour Day. University closed.
3 Tuesday
  • Fall Term begins.
3-7 Tuesday-Saturday
  • Block Week.
7 Saturday
  • Last day to withdraw with permission from Fall Term Block Week courses.
9 Monday
  • FALL TERM LECTURES BEGIN (except Block Week courses).
20 Friday
  • Last day to drop full courses and Fall term half courses.
  • No refunds for full courses (Multi-term) or Fall Term half courses after this date.
23 Monday
  • Last day to add or swap full courses and Fall term half courses.
  • Last day for change of registration from audit to credit or credit to audit.
27 Friday
  • Fee payment deadline for Fall term full and half courses.
  • Course-based degrees: Deadline for completion of all degree requirements to be eligible for November 2013 Convocation.
  • Thesis-based degrees: Last day for master’s and doctoral students to submit all required forms to the Faculty of Graduate Studies, and the theses/dissertations to the Vault to be eligible for November 2013 Convocation.
  • All graduate students: Last day to complete all degree requirements (including submission of theses/dissertations) to not have fees assessed for Fall 2013.

OCTOBER, 2013

14 Monday
  • Thanksgiving Day, University closed (except Taylor Family Digital Library, Law, Medical, Gallagher and Business Libraries). No lectures.

NOVEMBER, 2013

9-12 Saturday-Tuesday
  • Reading Days. No lectures.
11 Monday
  • Remembrance Day (Observed). University Closed (except Taylor Family Digital Library, Law, Medical, Gallagher and Business Libraries). No lectures.
12 Tuesday
  • Fall Convocation.

DECEMBER, 2013

6 Friday
  • FALL TERM LECTURES END. (For practicum students, the length of the term may be extended.)
  • Last day to withdraw with permission from Fall Term half courses.
9-19 Monday-Thursday
  • Fall Term Final Examinations and consolidated end-of-term tests in full courses.
25-31 Wednesday-Tuesday
  • Holiday Observance. Term Break. University Closed.
31 Tuesday
  • All Graduate Students: Last day to submit Application for Graduation for all degrees and diplomas to be conferred for February 2014.
  • Course-based Students: Deadline for completion of all degree requirements to be eligible for February 2014 Degree Conferral.

JANUARY, 2014

1 Wednesday
  • New Year's Day. University Closed.
2 Thursday
  • Winter Term Begins
    Lectures begin in Block Week courses.
2-4; 6-7 Thursday-Saturday; Monday-Tuesday
  • Block Week.
7 Tuesday
  • Last day to withdraw with permission from Block Week courses.
8 Wednesday
  • WINTER TERM LECTURES BEGIN (except Block Week courses).
17 Friday
  • Last day to drop Winter Term half courses.
  • No fee refunds for Winter Term half courses after this date.
20 Monday
  • Last day to add or swap Winter Term half courses.
  • Last day to change registration from audit to credit or credit to audit.
24 Friday
  • Fee payment deadline for Winter Term fees.
    Spring and Summer term Schedule of Classes will be available mid-January.
  • Thesis-based students: Last day to submit all required forms to the Faculty of Graduate Studies, and the theses/dissertations to the Vault to be eligible for February 2014 Degree Conferral and not have fees assessed for Winter 2014.
