Master of Education: Interdisciplinary Route
1. Credentials and Specializations Offered

The Master of Education (Interdisciplinary Studies) is earned through a three-stage, laddered pathway consisting of:

1. Graduate Certificate

2. Graduate Diploma

3. Master of Education

The Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Master of Education are continuous programs with no scheduled breaks.

Specialization:

  • Interdisciplinary Studies

Students who complete the Graduate Certificate and the Graduate Diploma and who are subsequently accepted into the Master of Education program will be granted 24 units of laddering credit towards the Master’s degree. A direct entry into a 24-unit Graduate Diploma may be possible with the approval of Graduate Programs in Education.

Topics for the Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma courses are designed in response to the professional community and therefore change year to year. 2. Admission Requirements

In addition to the Faculty of Graduate Studies admission requirements, the Office of Graduate Programs in Education requires:

a) A ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½ four-year baccalaureate degree or an equivalent degree from a recognized institution. Degrees and grades from foreign institutions are evaluated for their equivalency to those of the ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½.

b) A minimum GPA of 3.00 (on the ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½ four-point system). This is based on the last two years of the undergraduate degree consisting of a minimum of 60 units.

c) For applicants required to present proficiency in English, a minimum TOEFL (Internet-based) score of 97, an IELTS (academic version) overall band score of 7.0 or a CAEL overall score of 70 (with no section less than 70). This requirement can also be met by completing the Academic with a minimum grade of "A-" in each course.

The test must have been taken within the last two years. When requesting that official TOEFL test scores are forwarded to the ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½, please indicate institution code 0813.

d) Two references are required to apply to the graduate certificate. Referees will be asked to complete an online reference form. Please note that references are not required for previously admitted students seeking admission to the Graduate Diploma or Master of Education (Interdisciplinary Studies).

3. Application Deadline

Application deadline is available on the Future Students website: .

Students following the MEd Interdisciplinary laddered pathway must apply at each stage; first, to the Graduate Certificate, then to the Graduate Diploma and finally to the Master of Education, with no more than five years between each stage.

4. Advanced Credit

The applicant must make advanced credit requests as part of the application process. Credit will not be given for course work taken as part of another completed degree/diploma, or for courses taken to bring grade point average to a required level for admission.

5. Program/Course Requirements

The degree consists of a three-stage laddered pathway: Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, and the Master of Education.

1. Graduate Certificate requires 12 units in Educational Research courses.

2. Graduate Diploma requires 12 additional units in Educational Research courses.

3. Master of Education requires 12 additional units in Educational Research 600, 602, 604 and 606.

Flexible Grade Option (CG Grade)

Graduate Programs in Education in the Werklund School of Education will not permit the Flexible Grade Option (CG Grade) for any course offered by the School.

Students may not choose the CG grade for a course taken extra to load.

The use of the CG grade will affect students' eligibility for internal awards.

6. Credit for Undergraduate Courses

Graduate Programs in Education does not normally accept undergraduate courses for credit toward graduate degrees.

7. Time Limit

The expected completion time is one year for each of the program credentials in the laddered pathway to a maximum of two years for each of the Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Master of Education.

8. Academic Co-ordinator Assignments

An academic co-ordinator is assigned to the cohort of students in the course-based Master of Education program.
