Healthy Sexuality

If you're sexually active, or thinking about becoming sexually active, it's important to express your sexuality in an affirming and healthy way.

Healthy sexuality

Healthy sexuality means expressing your sexual desires in a way that is safe, consensual and fulfilling. It also means freedom from sexual violence.

Safe:

Protect yourself and your partners against unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). We offer STI screenings and access to student support advisors if more support is needed.

Student Wellness Services for prescription birth control, the Women’s Resource Centre for free condoms, or the SU Q Centre for free condom and dental dams.

Consensual:

Everyone involved in sexual activity is an enthusiastic participant.

To give or accept meaningful consent, you shouldn’t be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. You should also be outside the influence of coercion. Consent can be revoked as freely as it's given.

Fulfilling:

Your sexual needs are being met in a way you enjoy and feel comfortable with.

It’s important that you express your sexuality in a way that feels meaningful and satisfying to you. Explore your desires with partners you’re comfortable with and don’t be afraid to ask for what you want, while respecting others' boundaries.
