4.8.1 BFA in Visual Studies

After first year, students may choose either the Studio Concentration or the Developmental Art Concentration, or follow the general BFA Visual Studies program without selecting a concentration (requirements shown below). The BFA with a Studio Concentration is an advanced undergraduate program for students seeking a more focused studio experience, aspiring to careers as practicing and professional artists, or considering further graduate-level study in an MFA program.

A. FACULTY OF ARTS REQUIREMENTS

Students must adhere to the applicable Faculty of Arts requirements in 3.4 Graduation.

B. MAJOR-FIELD REQUIREMENTS AND NORMAL SEQUENCE

The BFA in Visual Studies requires the successful completion of the following program of study, which includes 10.0 to 17.0 full-course equivalents in the Field of Art:

First Year

Second Year

  • 1.0 full-course equivalent from the Field of Art or Art History at the 300 level or above
  • 1.0 full-course equivalent from the Field of Art History at the 300 or 400 level
  • 0.5 full-course equivalent from the Field of the Fine Arts
  • 1.0 full-course equivalent in non-Art options
  • 1.5 full-course equivalents in open options

Third Year

  • 2.0 full-course equivalents from the Field of Art or Art History at the 300 level or above
  • 1.0 full-course equivalent from the Field of the Fine Arts at the 300 level or above
  • 1.0 full-course equivalent in non-Art options at the 300 level or above
  • 1.0 full-course equivalent in open options at the 300 level or above
  • Art 103

Fourth Year

  • 2.0 full-course equivalents from the Field of Art or Art History at the 300 level or above
  • 3.0 full-course equivalents in open options at the 300 level or above
  • Art 104
