G.3.3 Online Final Examinations
  • In addition to the Scheduling of Final Examinations regulations listed in G.3.2, the following regulations apply to timed final examinations for online delivery. 
  • Technology requirements needed for the final examination must be indicated in the course outline. 
  • Timed final examinations must be designed to be completed within the time scheduled for the final examinations as stated in the final examination schedule provided by the Registrar (e.g. a two-hour final exam is designed to take two hours to complete). 
  • Timed final examinations must be set up in student learning system (D2L) or other approved university platforms to allow for an additional 50 per cent time extension to complete the examination (e.g. a two-hour exam would have a three-hour time window to complete). 
  • Any additional accommodation requirements through apply to online examinations. See Rights to Accommodation, Section G. Academic Assessments and Examinations for additional details. Any time allocated for issues that arise during an assessment would be in addition to accommodation requirements. 
  • Online assessments must be made available for students to complete starting 24 hours ahead of the scheduled final exam time as indicated in the .
The Dean of the faculty offering the course must approve a synchronous online final assessment where students start and end at the same time. 
  • In these cases:
  • The Faculty must provide alternative arrangements for students who are not able to complete the assessment during the synchronous scheduled time (e.g. different time zone, caregiving responsibilities, ability to secure an appropriate test-taking environment). 
  • The process for requesting an online final assessment at an alternate time must be articulated in the course outline.
  • All final assessments must be submitted by the end time as indicated in the Student and Faculty Centre.
