Support Staff Employee Hire Types

Employees that support the operations of the university and fall under the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.

Operating Funded

Positions are paid through base operating funds and may or may not have an anticipated end date.

Full Time Equivalent (FTE) is equal to the number of hours a full-time employee works for the ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½.  Depending on the role, 1.0FTE could be 35 hours, 37.5 hours, or 40 hours.

Regular Full Time

This permanent position is expected to work 1.0 FTE.

 

Regular Part Time

This permanent position is expected to work less than 1.0 FTE.

Temporary Full Time 

This position is engaged to work a regular schedule (a period of not less than 20 consecutive work days and not more than 6 consecutive months) and expected to work 1.0 FTE.

 

Temporary Part Time

This position is engaged to work a regular schedule (a period of not less than 20 consecutive work days and not more than 6 consecutive months) and expected to work less than 1.0 FTE.

Temporary Relief Full Time

This position is temporarily engaged to work for a period of more than 6 months (replacing a Regular or Sessional employee on a leave who is expected to return) and expected to work 1.0 FTE.

 

Temporary Relief Part Time

This position is temporarily engaged to work for a period of more than 6 months (replacing a Regular or Sessional employee on a leave who is expected to return) and expected to work less than 1.0 FTE.

Limited term positions may be paid through base operating funds or operating project funds.  

The length of term is typically up to two (2) years and may extend for an additional two (2) years.

Limited Term Full Time

This position is working in a non-recurring appointment (created through the use of one-time special funds whose terms of hire establish an anticipated date for termination) and expected to work 1.0 FTE.

 

Limited Term Part Time

This position is working in a non-recurring appointment (created through the use of one-time special funds whose terms of hire establish an anticipated date for termination) and expected to work less than 1.0 FTE.

Sessional Full Time

This position is engaged to work a specified period of employment of a recurring nature (not less than twenty (20) consecutive work days and not more than 12 months during each year) and expected to work 1.0 FTE.

 

Sessional Part Time

This position is engaged to work a specified period of employment of a recurring nature (not less than twenty (20) consecutive work days and not more than 12 months during each year) and expected to work less than 1.0 FTE.

Recurring Part Time

This position is engaged to work on an irregular schedule less than 1.0 FTE.

Casual

This position is engaged to work an irregular schedule of shifts of three (3) hours or more to:

  • Replace an employee absent from work for a period of less than 20 consecutive work days.
  • Augment the regular work force on no more than 30 work days per calendar year.

Student Job

This position is engaged to work shifts no less than three (3) hours per shift, and no more than 22.5 hours per week during the fall and/or winter semester(s).

Student employees must be registered in one (1) ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½ course or more, or registered as a Graduate Student at the ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½.

From May 1 to September 15 and December 1 to January 15, active Canadian students can work up to full-time hours.  International students have different provisions.

Research (Project) Funded

Positions are paid through research funds and will have an anticipated end date (maximum 5 years).

Full Time Equivalent (FTE) is equal to the number of hours a full-time employee works for the ²ÝÝ®ÎÛÊÓƵµ¼º½.  Depending on the role, 1.0FTE could be 35 hours, 37.5 hours, or 40 hours.

Fixed Term Full Time

This position is expected to work 1.0 FTE.

 

Fixed Term Part Time

This position is expected to work less than 1.0 FTE.

Recurring Part Time

This position is engaged to work on an irregular schedule less than 1.0 FTE.

Casual

This position is engaged to work an irregular schedule of shifts of three (3) hours or more to:

Student Job
